THE FRIENDS OF THE PERTH FARMER'S MARKET
WHO ARE WE AND WHAT WE'RE ABOUT
In the winter of 2008 a group of people who care about eating locally meet monthly to focus on the support and promotion of local foods in Lanark County. One initiative that has come from these discussions is a group we're calling The Friends of the Perth Farmer's Market. The purpose of this group will be to provide support to and promotion of the farmer's market and the farmers who come to the market to sell their locally grown products. The group is a volunteer run initiative and a sub-committee of the Perth Farmer's Market Association. Our activities are conducted in conjunction with the market vendors.
A nominal membership fee of $10. per person is charged for registration. The fees will be used to fund promotional activities on behalf of the market such as advertising, special events and the creation of a seasonal newsletter that will keep you abreast of what's fresh at the market as the season unfolds.
We hope that you might be interested in this initiative and join in support. Primarily the purpose of the membership is to provide a way for people who care about having access to quality, locally grown, foods and to formally support our local growers.
Hopefully you may also want to volunteer to help with some of the activities.
VOLUNTEER ACTITIVIES INCLUDE:
- Planning and hosting special events at the market
- Hosting the Friend's table at the market some Saturdays
- Providing technical support with website or newsletter
- Helping with advertising
- Planning the 2x yearly party at beginning and end of season
- Other talents you have to share with this group and the farmers.
